Who is providing the After Hours Radiology and Reporting Service?

The service is provided by Canberra Imaging Group (CIG).

When is this new service commencing?

The service commences on Monday 15 January 2018 and runs to 14 January 2019 inclusive.

What are the hours of the service and where are they located?

Service are available at the following times and locations:

Weekdays:         5.30pm to 8pm – Calvary Private Hospital Bruce

Intake phone line open from 4.30pm

Saturdays:           12 noon to 2pm – Peter Yorke Building Calvary John James Hospital

Intake phone line open from 11am

Service are not be available during Public Holidays.

How do I refer a patient to the service?

Both patients and referring GPs are able to contact the service by calling the intake line number on (02) 6228 8118.         

It is preferable that GPs contact the service when making a referral so that CIG can confirm the suitability of the patient.  GPs should provide details of their After Hours contact details in case CIG staff need to contact them urgently.

What type of patients can I refer to the service?

The service is available for ACT General Practitioners (GPs) to refer people whose health condition is non-life threatening but require diagnostic Radiology (i.e. X-ray) services prior to the next in hours period and who would otherwise need to visit ACT Emergency Departments to access this service.

What imaging services are provided?

Imaging includes plain X-ray only.

Imaging services other than X-Ray are not available.

Do I need to be contactable in the After Hours period?

Yes, the referring GP and patient must be contactable following the completion of the service.  You will only be contacted if CIG staff need to contain you urgently.

When can I expect to get X-Ray results?

Results for After Hours Radiology (i.e. X-Ray) Services will be accessible to referring GPs and patients electronically within a maximum of a four hour period and on average within two hours from the time the service is provided.

How can I access X-Ray results?

Electronic results are available to the referring GP via Healthlink download directly to the GPs practice management software or via the Medinexus online portal which can be accessed on the CIG website (https://www.canberraimaging.com.au ) – referrers menu.

GPs can also access the results using a mobile device, for example an iPhone or iPad via the CIG mobile device App. Please Contact Medinexus directly to setup an account on 1300 796 959

In the near future results will also be uploaded to My Health Record.

How much does the patient have to pay for the Service?

Patient co-payments for After Hours Radiology (i.e. X-ray) and Reporting services will not exceed $90. Patients will be required to pay the co-payment, with ACT X-Ray Services billing the residual payment directly to Medicare Australia.
